Overall objectives:

Instruction in the Animation department seeks to develop mastery of expression through the moving image, aiming for creativity and innovation.
With the skills acquired, students must be able to design, implement, and direct projects in order to become part of the very diversified world of animation (art films, music and advertising videos, credit sequences, institutional films, branding, video games, series, Internet, experimental films, short films, feature films, installations, etc.). In this constantly changing professional environment, the designer-filmmaker must be capable of exploring and opening new paths.

The instruction moves gradually more in-depth into the technical bases of animation, staging, dramatic art, narration, and experimentation, but it also develops projects that have been commissioned.

The artistic, technical, and industrial tradition of animated films is approached from a critical perspective.

Students are initiated into the main techniques of cartoon films, animated volume, direct animation, and computer-generated images. They are encouraged to invent new techniques or to adapt existing ones to the needs of their expression.

From the 2nd to 4th years, instruction is organized so as to favor balance among individual exercises and projects, phases of experimentation, and production of collective projects.
The goal is to bring the students to a level of maturity in their 5th year sufficient for designing and producing a Grand Projet (diploma project).
