International programs at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs

Openness and exposure to innovation and creation in a foreign cultural context are essential elements in building a professional future. Like most of the major art and design institutions in the world, the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs seeks to capitalize on the advantages offered by the diversity and richness of its international networks.
This approach strives to make the School an international reference in the teaching of the arts and design in order to increase its attractiveness for teachers, researchers, students, and the rest of the world.
There are five main elements to the school's international approach:

1. Teacher and student mobility

This is part of the curriculum harmonization at the European and international levels. It includes:

  • Study at academic partner institutions, included in the 4th-year curriculum (merit-based scholarships are offered by the School). This mobility, generally lasting one semester, is not mandatory but is encouraged by the School.
  • Professor mobility supports and furthers the development of international exchanges and projects. Professors have opportunities to meet colleagues from partner institutions, to participate in international seminars or symposiums, to supervise workshops or development projects, or to organize exhibitions of students' works at major international events.
  • Hosting foreign students and teachers from partner institutions. Approximately 70 foreign students from around the world are accepted each year.

2. Educational travel

Mandatory for all 3rd-year students, educational travel is proposed by each department, on specific themes related to current events in the program or in partnerships. The choice of destinations proposed by each department must further the development of truly constructive relations with the academic institutions of the countries concerned.

3. Professional internships

Internships lasting at least three months are mandatory for each student during the course of study. They may be carried out in France or abroad. (Merit-based scholarships are available for internships in various companies or business, in the USA, Japan, China, New Zealand, Madagascar, Italy, Germany, etc.).

4. Workshops

Organized with foreign schools or universities, these activities are usually carried out to further the development of research projects (Master's or post-Master's program) and are sometimes part of an established bilateral relationship with countries such as India, China, Brazil, the USA, Finland, and Japan.

5. Participation in international events

These have included the Seoul and Helsinki "World Design Capital" events and the Milan Furniture Fair, as well as gatherings organized by networks of international associations (the European League of Institutes of the Arts – ELIA; CUMULUS; the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media; the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design – ICSID) that develop cooperation among schools in Europe and around the world and further reflection on educational, research, and innovation themes.
The School's international action is based on an exceptional network of more than 120 partners.
