Descriptif

Informations

Overall objectives:

The instruction aims to develop creativity and innovation.

The skills acquired are applied in the following fields:

  • textiles
  • end materials
  • surfaces

in housing, clothing, products, and public facilities.

Textile & materials designers must be capable of

  • analyzing every parameter of an issue in those fields,
  • and of proposing a set of professional solutions, for which they will manage implementation, verification, communication, and promotion.

They also play a supervisory role in

  • research (in particular)
  • creation
  • production

Instruction in this department follows a progression
that ranges from knowledge about the components of textiles and basic materials, to their creative use within the context of technical, industrial, and economic limitations.

It includes learning about structures, end materials, textile techniques (weaving, mesh, printing), new technologies related to textiles, color, drawing, and textile graphics.

The theoretical and practical instruction covers the technical, sociological, ecological, and aesthetic aspects of "textile" creation, from planning to production:

  • creation of designs based on fully-developed ideas,
  • mastery of materials and of diverse and interdependent technological practices,
  • mastery of materials and practices at the craftwork level and the industrial level,
  • mastery of color, a major means of expression at the service of various disciplines in the Textile and Texture Design department,
  • constant exchanges among disciplines in the department and the related departments of spatial art and product design,
  • layout and graphic design classes enabling students to present and enhance their work in a professional and creative way.

Textiles are now an interface that is expressed through its techniques of a craftwork, industrial, and technological nature.
